With the last post supporting singledom at university, here’s the other side: people often think that being in a relationship at university means missing out, but it really isn’t, and here’s why:
1) JUST AS FUN
With the view that being partnered up at uni is a bore, spending nights in watching tv every night with your other half – people may avoid getting into a relationship at uni. But really, when you find the right person, you’ll have just as much fun. Maybe you will stay in with a film and a bottle of wine now and then, but that doesn’t take over your life. You have just as much fun, but you’ve got somebody to share that fun with!
To be honest, that candle-lit dinner with some pinot grigio and a few roses is a nice break from the rest of the world. The romance of a relationship is a wonderful escape from studying and stress when you need it, and the cute surprises will make your day too.
Yes, soppy. But we all want them now and then, so I think this needs no further explaining. Go have a cuddle.
4) A LACK OF REGRET
Singledoms do a lot that they regret under the influence of alcohol, but it’s a totally different experience if you’ve a partner. The biggest regret will be when you stumbled out of the bar at 3am and almost fell into the taxi, not who you gave your number to that night. Or sending those cheesy song lyrics in an incomprehensible text to your significant other. But oh well.
You’ve got three assignments due next week, it’s 4am and all the work you’ve done tonight has just deleted itself – and you want to break things. But no need, pick up the phone and call your guy or girl. They are there for you, when you’re happy AND when you’re about to explode. Who knows, they might come round with a pizza to chill you out. Who knows.
6) THE L WORD
A scary one this – if you believe in love, a university romance may just blossom into that. And if you’re in a relationship that continued from before uni, hell, it’s already love. And that’s enough reason.
So although singledom at uni may be great – don’t be scared of relationships. University is just as great when you’re sharing your special moments with that special person as it is ‘living it up’ like a student. Just do avoid public displays of affection….cringe.
